Tim Burton's movie can be found for purchase
on VHS tape and DVD. The DVD disc has a letterbox version
on one side, and a panned-and-scanned version on the other. Other features include
production notes, two trailers, and English, French, and Spanish subtitles.
The movie was also released on laserdisc.

In April 1997, Atlantic Recording
(a Time/Warner company) released the "Mars Attacks!" soundtrack.
The CD is just under 47 minutes long. Danny Elfman's weird music is a wonderful
mix of stirring warlike marches, grandiose orchestral pieces and eerie space
music, reminiscent of the 50's sci-fi movies. There's even
Slim Whitman's
"Indian Love Call" ("When I'm Calling You"), AND
Tom Jones' "It's Not Unusual" included!
The official Warner Brothers Mars Attacks website is an amazing site! There
are TONS of photos, sketches, paintings, GAMES, screen savers, and more!!
Also available is the MOVIE TRAILER (which takes about 45 min. to download
using a 28.8 kbps modem). It is a fantastic mini-movie in itself! DON'T
MISS IT!
There is also a cool "Mars Attacks Sound
Play" on the W.B. page. It's a 10 minute "radio"
broadcast about a guy named Marty Buber, who is carrying the first copy of
the film to California because it contains the secret about how to defeat
the Martians. It requires RealAudio
to play it.
Director Tim Burton and Warner Bros. Studios
released the "Mars Attacks" movie on
FRYDAY, December 13, 1996 in the U.S. (release in the UK was Feb. 28th, 1997,
and in March in Japan). The film stars the following:
Jack Nicholson, Annette Benning, Pierce Brosnan, Jim Brown, Glenn Close,
Danny DeVito, Michael J. Fox, Pam Grier, Lukas Haas, Tom Jones, Lisa Marie,
Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Martin Short, Sylvia Sydney, Rod
Steiger, and Paul Winfield. WOW! What a cast! There is a LOT of computer
animation, especially the Martians themselves. Jonathan Gems' original,
somewhat campy comedic script was first replaced with a more serious one
but has since been reinstated. The flavor of the movie is akin to the
campy sci-fi B-movies of the 50's.
Look for big-screen adaptations of some
of the original cards like "Burning Cattle" and "Destroying
a Dog". This was definitely THE Mars Attacks event of the year!
Burton's film received some
mixed reviews here in the States, but seemed to be more enthusiastically
received in England. The computer animation received rave reviews from
everyone and the actors all played their parts to the hilt. Burton tried
to recapture the flavor of the 50's sci-fi B-movie genre while viewing the
Martians through his trademark off-center point of view, and easily
succeeded. It helps to have seen the cards and the comics before seeing
the movie. If you understand the Mars Attacks concept, you'll love the
film.

Just about every movie and sci-fi magazine
(like "Starlog", "Cinefantastique",
"Cinescape", "Premiere", etc.) all had articles
about the movie in their December '96 or January '97 issues. Some even
featured Martians on the covers and fold-out posters!
